MP wants consent law for child body piercings

A Family First MP wants to toughen South Australia’s body piercing laws to ensure that people under 18 have parental consent.

There are no laws regulating body piercings for children under 18.

SA MP Dennis Hood says 1,000 cases of infections from body piercing have been reported in the past year, proving that the practice is unsafe.

“What this will do is give the power back to the parents and not have it sort of languishing in the hands of the children if you like as the absence of laws at the moment does,” he said.

Of course there should be laws regulating body piercing and it should cover not only the piercing of minors, but the sterilization and practices as well. I have to also mention that Body Piercing Is Safe – if done right! Just because there have been 1,000 cases of infections doesn’t prove anything. There are shops out there that do amazing work that is clean and heals perfectly. You can check out an example of a professional, quality shop here…
